Scope and Content Oban Station, Argyll This station and the adjacent pier were opened in 1880 by the Callander and Oban Railway, to interchange passengers and goods between the railway and steamers serving the west highlands and islands. This view shows the front of the station from the north east. The building was constructed of timber on a steel frame, with a ridge and furrow glazed roof. The woodwork was originally varnished. This building was demolished in the late 1980s. and replaced by a small brick structure on a site to the right of the former building, which has been replaced by a block of specialist shops.
