It moved to its first purpose-built premises in Princes Street in 1837. This original sketch by architect William Burn in 1834 shows the front elevation of the new premises of the club in Princes Street. In the late 18th century, a large number of clubs, political and social, were formed in Edinburgh and met in taverns.
