Scope and Content Front drawing-room, No 64 Queen Street, Edinburgh No 64 Queen Street, built in 1790 for Francis, 7th Earl of Wemyss, was, like Baron Orde's house at No 8 Queen Street and Sir Laurence Dundas' mansion in St Andrew Square, one of the grandest houses in the New Town. The front drawing-room was lit from the north by three floor-length windows. The walls have a chair rail with plaster panelling above, framed by a gilt bead with bunches of grapes at each corner. In the east wall is a green marble fireplace. The front drawing-room opened through massive folding doors in the south wall into the back drawing-room, the most splendid room in the house. This had an ante-room, separated from the rest of the room by an Ionic arcade, and was lit by a Venetian window. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
