Scope and Content Garron Bridge (also known as Shirva Bridge), Inveraray, Argyll This large single-span bridge was designed by Robert Mylne. It was built by the Duke of Argyll as part of the approach to his remodelled estate and town of Inveraray, and is unusually elaborate, with balustraded parapets and ball finials on the abutments. This view shows the bridge from the south west The sophistication of the design is apparent. Note the long approaches with retaining walls. This bridge was by-passed in the 1980s, and is now disused. It is also known as Garron Bridge. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
