Scope and Content Font from Kinkell Parish Church, St John's Episcopal Church, Aberdeen This octagonal font originally stood in Kinkell Parish Church. It was removed from there and stood in a garden for a long time before it was taken to St John's. Of the original font only this granite basin survives. Each face of the font is carved. The face to the left bears the sacred monogram IHS (Jesus Hominum Salvator), crowned; the face in the centre bears the Arma Christi or five wounds of Christ; and the face to the right has a Gothic crowned M for Mary. One face bears the initials of Alexander Galloway, Rector of Kinkell Parish Church from 1516 to 1552. The sacrament house at Kinkell is also inscribed with Galloway's initials. Kinkell Parish Church was probably built by Galloway in 1528. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
