Scope and Content Concrete yard, South-haa, Shetland This was the shore station for the construction by the Northern Lighthouse Board of the Ve Skerries automatic light, built as a navigational aid for tankers using the Sullom Voe oil terminal. The concrete mixed here was taken by helicopter to the site. This view shows the large concrete mixer on the left, and on the right two of the containers for transporting the concrete, on light-railway under-frames. The railway ran to the helicopter landing pad. The Ve Skerries light was the first major light built by the Northern Lighthouse Board to be designed for unmanned operation.
