Scope and Content Warehouse, Stromness, Orkney Stromness is the ferry-port of Orkney, and has a long history of trade, for many years being almost entirely a merchant community, with private warehouses lining the shore. This was one of the largest, built by James Gordon of Cairston. a local estate. This view shows the warehouse from the south, with its crowstepped gables and external stair to the first floor. It is of unusual width for the period. The building now houses the local Tourist Information Office. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
