Scope and Content Tiumpan Head Lighthouse, Lewis, Ross and Cromarty This lighthouse is situated on the eastmost point on the Isle of Lewis. It was designed by D Alan Stevenson for the Northern Lighthouse Board, and is in the simple style of the Board's lighthouses of the period. This view shows the lighthouse from above. Note the flat roofs of the keepers' houses and engine room, built thus to minimise the effects of gales in this very exposed place. They are constructed of dished steel plates with asphalt and concrete above. Since 1976, this light, like all other Northern Lighthouse Board lights, has been automated, and is now controlled by radio from Edinburgh. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
