Scope and Content Lanark Station, Lanarkshire The Lanark Railway was built in 1857 without an Act of Parliament, as all the landowners on the route agreed to give up the land for the railway. It was worked by the Caledonian Railway, who took it over and built a new station in 1867. This view shows the station from the north, with an electric train for Glasgow. The main 1867 building is out of sight to the right. The timber building seen here is of a standard late 19th century Caledonian Railway pattern. Since this photograph was taken the wooden building seen here has gone out of passenger use. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
