Scope and Content View of Cherry Park from the north-east, Inveraray estate, Argyll and Bute This court of offices is situated 230m west of Inveraray Castle, to which it is connected by an avenue. It now houses the Argyll Estate office and a museum. In 1759 plans were drawn up by John Adam (1721-92) for a coach-house and stables. John Adam (1721-92) began work on Cherry Park in 1760 but only one range was roofed before the 3rd Duke of Argyll died in 1761. The 5th Duke commissioned William Mylne (1734-90) to alter and complete the court, and it was finished by 1772. The masonry is ashlar, some of which is badly perished. The roofs are of slate, and the pyramidal roofs of the pavilions are surmounted with lead-covered ventilators with oval louvred openings. The ranges were altered in the 19th century and in the 1960s.
