Catalogue Number SC 458446

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content View of east front of Cherry Park, Inveraray estate, Argyll and Bute John Adam (1721-92) began work on Cherry Park in 1760 but only one range was roofed before the 3rd Duke of Argyll died in 1761. The 5th Duke commissioned William Mylne (1734-90) to alter and complete the court, and it was finished by 1772. This range was the first to be completed. This east front incorporates the entrance archway from the castle. It has an advanced centrepiece with a plain base-course which continues around the building, and a triangular pediment. There are two round-arrised sash-and-case windows, the one to the right is blind. The corner pavilions have Palladian windows with moulded bases, capitals, entablatures, arches and projecting sills. There are small six-pane windows at first-floor level. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
