Scope and Content West face of MacMillan's Cross in the chapel at Kilmory Knap, Argyll and Bute In 1934 the chapel at Kilmory Knap was restored and roofed with glass by the Office of Works. It now houses Early Christian and medieval stones from the chapel and churchyard, including this cross which stood in the graveyard until 1981. The cross-head depicts the Crucified Saviour, on a plain and irregular cross, flanked on his left by the hooded Virgin and on his right by St John. The lower part of the shaft is decorated with a sword, below intertwined plant-stems. According to an inscription on the east face, the cross was made for Alexander MacMillan, who was probably the keeper of Castle Sween for the Lord of the Isles before 1481. The cross is a product of the Loch Sween school of stone carving. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
