Scope and Content View by MacLagan showing the standing stones, Ballymeanoch, Argyll and Bute Ballymeanoch is one of a series of impressive prehistoric monuments situated in the Kilmartin Valley, one of the densest concentrations of prehistoric monuments in Mid-Argyll. MacLagan's drawing of Ballymeanoch shows the arrangement of the stones, with the (now lost) outlying stone with its circular perforation. An excavation in 1977 recovered the fragmented outlying stone. The purpose of standing stones remains uncertain. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
