Scope and Content Forteviot Station, Perthshire This station was opened in 1848 by the Scottish Central Railway. It was a two-platform through station, with the main building on the north-bound platform. This was built in a 'Scots' style, one of two styles adopted by the Scottish Central. This view shows the building from the north east. It is on an L-plan, with an awning in the angle of the L, a very typical Scottish layout. The platform edges have been removed. The station closed in the 1950s, when local services on main lines were withdrawn in the face of road competition. Since 1975 the house accommodation has been increased by walling in the area under the verandah. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
