Scope and Content View of Cherry Park from the south-east, Inveraray estate, Argyll and Bute John Adam (1721-92) began work on Cherry Park in 1760 but only one range was roofed before the 3rd Duke of Argyll died in 1761. The 5th Duke commissioned William Mylne (1734-90) to alter and complete the court, and it was finished by 1772. The south front (left) was one of the two show fronts, the other being the east front (right). The south front was designed to accommodate seven carriages. Framed by pavilions, identical to those on the east front, it had an arcade of elliptical arches. The arches of the coach-houses spring from rectangular piers with square base-courses and impost-bands. Some of the arches were infilled with rubble, probably in the 19th century, while some now contain windows. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
