SC 455207

Description Knowehead Quarry View of cutting and dressing shed

Date 5/9/1975

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 455207

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Sandstone quarry, Locharbriggs, Dumfriesshire On the other side of the main A701 road through Locharbriggs from the operating quarry were older buildings and equipment, including a disused maintenance workshop, and an open-sided stone-finishing shop. This general view shows the stone-finishing workshop (cutting and dressing shed), with two hand-cranes used for handling stone blocks. This workshop appears to have been demolished, as one of the cranes is now displayed outside the offices of Baird and Stevenson on the main A701 road through Locharbriggs.
