Description Langholm Distillery General view from SE

Date 9/1975

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 455178

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Former Langholm Distillery, Dumfriesshire This was a small lowland malt whisky distillery, probably set up under the provisions of the Small Stills Act of 1816. It closed in 1915 and does not seem to have been re-opened. It was later converted into a motor garage. This view shows the buildings of the distillery on their narrow site between the main A7 road and the river Esk. As can be seen, it was a very small complex. This was not the only distillery in the area, as Glentarras was built not far to the south in the mid-19th century, though it had closed before 1915. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
