Kinnel Bridge View of downstream face, from S

SC 455109

Description Kinnel Bridge View of downstream face, from S

Date 4/9/1975

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 455109

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Kinnel Bridge, Dumfriesshire This is a large three-span rubble masonry bridge, with segmental arches and triangular cutwaters. The central arch has a greater span than the flanking ones. This view shows the bridge from the south east. Note that the cutwaters are different, suggesting that one of them has been rebuilt. This is a little-known but impressive structure. The central span is unusually long and flat for a bridge of this character. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
