Scope and Content Balloch Bridge, Dunbartonshire This is a five-span bridge over the river Leven with three main bowed lattice truss spans, and shorter flanking plate-girder spans. The spans are carried on pairs of cylindrical masonry piers. This view shows the bridge from the south west. Note that two of the main trusses have longer spans than the third. This bridge replaced a large and fine suspension bridge of the type patented by James Dredge of Bath, which was the longest bridge of its type in Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
