SC 452726

Description Violet Grove Foundry View of machine shop

Date 5/11/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 452726

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Violet Grove Foundry, Grovepark Street, Glasgow This complex was built as the Violet Grove Mills, a power-loom weaving factory, in 1874. It was later converted into a brass foundry. As built it had 14 bays of single-storey north-light weaving sheds, which proved ideal for foundry use. This view shows the machine-shop of the foundry, with a lathe to the right of the heating stove. The foundry had closed by the time this photograph was taken, and the contents were sold soon afterwards. The buildings have since been demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
