Scope and Content Denburn Viaduct, Aberdeen The Denburn Viaduct, designed by William Boulton, is one of a series of viaducts in central Aberdeen which was built to span valleys, to allow new areas to be opened up for development. This view shows three of the visible spans of the viaduct, most of which is concealed by building on both sides of the street. The central span is over the railway which was built over the course of the Den Burn in 1867. The first urban viaduct in Aberdeen was Marischal Viaduct, built 1766-7, before parallels in Edinburgh. The last were Rosemount and Denburn viaducts, both part of the same scheme, and opened in 1886. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
