Scope and Content Water tower, Berryden Road, Aberdeen This is a very good example of an early reinforced-concrete water tower, built to give an adequate head of water for domestic and industrial purposes in an area of Aberdeen too high to rely on gravitational water supply. This view shows the cylindrical tank on its hexagonal base. The open construction of the supports is unusual. The north east of Scotland had a number of pioneering reinforced-concrete structures, including several unusual road bridges. This water tower is the largest and finest structure of its type and period in Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
