Scope and Content Stonehouse Viaduct, Lanarkshire This viaduct was built for the Caledonian Railway's Mid Lanarkshire lines, the last major new railway built in Scotland. The 8-span viaduct had steel double-Warren trusses on masonry piers, in common with the other viaducts on the lines. This view shows the viaduct from the south. It was on a curve, and was a striking landscape feature. The railway never carried much traffic, and was closed in 1965. Since 1974 the steel trusses have been removed for scrap, but the piers remain as landscape features. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
