Scope and Content Craighead Mill, Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire This was a water-powered corn mill, and was still in use in 1974. It was a rectangular rubble building, two-storey and attic, with later brick and corrugated iron extensions. This view shows the mill from the approach, with the brick and corrugated iron extensions almost completely obscuring the original mill. The louvered kiln ventilator, however be seen. The mill was driven by an internal waterwheel. Though the general form of the masonry building was of the late 18th century or a little later, It is possible that much of the rear wall was significantly earlier. The mill was bought for road improvement, and eventually gutted by fire. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
