Scope and Content Former Biggar Station, Station Road, Lanarkshire This station was opened by the Symington, Biggar & Broughton Railway in 1860 as a U-plan open-eaved building. It was extended in the 1890s to cope with traffic arising from holding of the Royal Highland Show in the burgh. This view shows the building from the platform side. The original building was the u-plan section in the middle; the wings are of the 1890s. The station closed to passengers in the 1950s, and to freight in 1966. The buildings, including a signal-box, have recently (c1998) been acquired by the Biggar Museum Trust. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
