Scope and Content Bishop Mills, Old Dumbarton Road, Glasgow The Bishop Mills were on an ancient site, but the buildings extant in 1974 were mid 19th century. The mills were originally water-powered, with auxiliary power, but were electrified in the 1950s. Latterly the mills made animal provender. This view shows the mill complex from the south, with the 1839-53 block in the middle, and a storage range to the left, probably later 19th century. The three-storey brick block on the right was the Artizan Machine Tool Works of c.1882. The mill was closed in the later 1970s, and the brick buildings demolished, The main range lay empty for a number of years, but has now been converted into flats.
