Scope and Content Lighthouse and ferry pier, Caledonian Canal, Lochend, Bona, Inverness-shire This complex was built at the north-west end of Loch Ness, where the river Ness flows out of it. At this point, and for some distance to the north-west, the river is part of the Caledonian Canal. The lighthouse marks the entrance to the canal. This view shows the ramped ferry pier, along the river-bank, with the octagonal lighthouse at the upper end. The building probably also originally served as a ferry house. The lighthouse buildings are now a private residence, and the ferry pier is now falling into decay. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
