Scope and Content Lochgorm railway works, Inverness, Inverness-shire This complex was founded by the Inverness and Nairn Railway as their maintenance base, in bout 1855. It was much enlarged as The Highland Railway's central workshops, and remains the repair base for their system. This view shows the workshops from the south east. The bays nearest to the camera were for carriage construction and repair, and the taller bays behind were for locomotive construction and repair. This workshop complex has survived in railway use because of its remoteness from other parts of the railway system. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
