Scope and Content Shipbreaking yard, Thomas Ward and Sons, Inverkeithing, Fife This shipbreaking yard was established after the First World War by Cox & Danks, and became famous for its part in breaking up units of the German High Seas Fleet scuttled in Scapa Flow, salvaged there and towed to Inverkeithing. This view shows two ships awaiting breaking, moored beside the cranes that will be used in dismantling them. In recent years the shipbreaking trade has declined. and the yard now deals with lighter scrap, like recovered car materials. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
