Scope and Content Valleyfield Colliery, Fife This colliery was sunk on the shore of the Forth to work coal under the Firth. This view shows the surface buildings from the north west, with the headgear of the two shafts clearly visible. The upcast shaft is bearer to the camera. This colliery closed soon after this photograph was taken, and the site has now been cleared. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
