Scope and Content North Berwick Harbour, East Lothian This harbour is a rectangular basin formed by an east breakwater pier,, the quayed east end and south side of the basin, and a short 18th century west pier. It was designed largely for grain shipment, and there are former granaries on the south quay. This view shows two of the three granaries on the south quay, now converted into flats. The harbour entrance can be protected from westerly gales by a 'boom'. This consists of a set of stout timbers which san be lifted by a crane and fitted into slots on either side of the entrance.
