Scope and Content Niddrie Brickworks, Edinburgh, Midlothian This was a large common-brick works built to supply bricks for housebuilding by the Niddrie & Benhar Coal Co. It had three large Hoffman continuous kiln, and latterly, a modern shuttle kiln. This view shows the Hoffman kilns and their associated chimneys. The brick presses and other preparatory machinery were housed in the buildings behind the kilns. The works closed in 1991, and was demolished. The site is now a shopping centre.
