Brydekirk Bridge View from SW

SC 450604

Description Brydekirk Bridge View from SW

Date 29/8/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 450604

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Brydekirk Bridge, Dumfriesshire This bridge was built by Thomas Boyd and William Stewart, as part of the laying out of the model village of Brydekirk by Colonel Dirom of Mount Annan. It is a very graceful structure, with a large central span flanked by smaller ones. This view shows the flatness of the arches, the slenderness of the piers, and the quality of the masonry, all indicating that this was an advanced design. The elaborate plans to develop Brydekirk came to nothing, and the place remains a hamlet. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
