Scope and Content Annandale Distillery, Dumfriesshire This lowland malt whisky distillery was rebuilt in 1887, and purchased in 1896 by John Walker & Sons. It closed in 1921, and the equipment was removed, though the shell was still largely intact in 1974. This view shows the distillery courtyard, with the chimney in the centre, the maltings on the left. And the tun-room and stillhouse to the right. After the first World War there was marked reduction in the market for Scotch Whisky, and Annandale was a victim of that. It is remarkable that the buildings survived for so long, so little altered.
