Scope and Content Annandale Distillery, Dumfriesshire This lowland malt whisky distillery was rebuilt in 1887, and purchased in 1896 by John Walker & Sons. It closed in 1921, and the equipment was removed, though the shell was still largely intact in 1974. This view shows the layout of the distillery, with the now-isolated chimney stack on the right. The range on the left probably housed the maltings. After the first World War there was a marked reduction in the market for Scotch Whisky, and Annandale was a victim of that. It is remarkable that the buildings survived for so long, so little altered. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
