Description Cummertrees Station View from SW

Date 29/8/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 450525

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Cummertrees Station, Dumfriesshire This wayside station was built for the Glasgow, Dumfries & Carlisle Railway. The building is single-storey, on an H-plan, with a low-pitched open-eaved roof, a style popular in the 1840s. This view shows the station from the entrance side. By the time this photograph was taken the station had not been in use as such for some time, and was a dwelling house. This section of railway was opened as a branch from Gretna, and did not become a through line until 1850. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
