Kingholm Quay View from SW showing basin

SC 450508

Description Kingholm Quay View from SW showing basin

Date 29/8/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 450508

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Harbour, Kingholm Quay, Dumfriesshire This quay and basin were rebuilt as the port of Dumfries when ships could no longer reach the town centre. Apart from a quayed stretch of the river bank there is a small tidal basin with a system of sluices to scour silt out. This view shows the basin from the river end. The scouring sluices are at the far end, but clearly they have not been used for some time. The harbour is now only used by a few pleasure craft. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
