Scope and Content Nithsdale Mill, St Michael Street, Dumfries, Dumfriesshire These tweed mills were founded in 1857 by Robert & Walter Scott. The four storey block seen here probably dates from the 1860s or later. Behind it were single-storey weaving sheds. This view shows the main mill range from the north east. The irregularities in the façade are due to alterations. This mill was probably built for mule spinning. This mill complex was still in partial use in 1974, but was demolished c1990, and houses built on the site. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
