Scope and Content Suspension footbridge, Dumfries, Dumfriesshire This bridge was constructed for the convenience of workers in the Troqueer tweed mills. It was designed by John Willet and built by James Abernethy & Co, both of Aberdeen, which was becoming known for light suspension bridges. This is a general view of the bridge from the Maxwelltown side, showing the Doric-columned pylons and flat lattice deck. This bridge was reconstructed in 1985 by WA Fairhurst & Partners, with a welded lattice-girder deck in place of the original riveted one. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
