Catalogue Number SC 450191
Category On-line Digital Images
Scope and Content Threshing mill, Southwick Home Farm, Kirkcudbrightshire This was the home farm for Southwick House, and was laid out on a generous scale. The threshing mill was housed in a barn built of massive granite rubble, and was water-driven, latterly by a suspended low-breast wheel with rim drive. This view shows the massive granite construction of the threshing barn, with the top of the wheel just visible. The wheel is likely to have been a late 19th or early 20th century replacement of a less sophisticated design. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
