Old Bridge of Urr General view

SC 449934

Description Old Bridge of Urr General view

Date 28/8/1978

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 449934

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Old Bridge of Urr, Kirkcudbrightshire This is a two-span rubble bridge with semicircular arches and triangular cutwaters. The central pier is less robust than in earlier practice. This view shows the bridge from the Urr parish side. Differences in the character of the stonework show that the bridge was originally humpbacked. The grouping of bridge, corn and sawmills, and carding mill her is unusual and attractive. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
