Scope and Content Tongland Power Station, Kirkcudbrightshire This is the lowest power station on the Galloway Hydro-electric Scheme, and was designed by Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners. It also houses the control centre for the other power stations in the scheme. This view shows the power station building, with its 'moderne' styling. The Galloway scheme was the first really large public hydro-electric generating scheme in Scotland, and paved the way for similar schemes in the Highlands. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
