Kempleton Mill General view from WSW

SC 449918

Description Kempleton Mill General view from WSW

Date 28/8/1978

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 449918

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Kempleton Mill, near Twynholm, Kirkcudbrightshire This is a very typical medium-sized water-powered corn mill, intact but disused in 1974. It had an internal low-breast waterwheel, 1.01 by 3.66m, which drove three pairs of stones. This view shows the mill in its setting. At the time of this photograph the mill was in a poultry farm, and because there was an outbreak of fowl pest it was impossible to inspect the mill more closely.
