Scope and Content Sandstone quarry, Locharbriggs, Dumfriesshire The large-scale quarrying of sandstone began at Locharbriggs in the mid 19th century, and is still being carried on. This view shows the quarry, with derrick cranes above the working faces. Since 1974 this quarry has been abandoned, and another opened. This one is now flooded. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
