Scope and Content Brewery, Gatehouse of Fleet, Kirkcudbrightshire This brewery was built when Gatehouse was a cotton mill town, with some workers brought up from Lancashire. Beer was thought to be a less harmful form of alcohol than spirits. This view shows the brewery from the street side. The productive building was at the rear, and is brick built. The manager's house was built on to the front of the productive building, and was stucco-fronted. The brewey was converted into flats in the 1990s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
