Scope and Content Kiln and granary, Sibster Mains Farm, Highland, from south-west Sibster Mains Farm has a large steading arranged around a square courtyard, dating variously from the late 18th century to the mid- to late 19th century and into the 20th century. It is thus a fine example of agricultural development through three centuries and is particularly notable for its 18th-century kiln barn. This shows the kiln and granary from the south-west. Note the louvred windows in the first-floor granary to provide ventilation for drying. This is the oldest range in the complex and the kiln forms a bow-ended gable at the north end. The doorway into the kiln is a later alteration. This Caithness 'bottle-type' corn drying kiln is a rare survival and that at Sibster is one of only two complete examples in the region. The other is at Hillhead near Wick. It is likely to have been built during the late 18th century. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
