Scope and Content View from north-west of Great Western Road, with Belhaven Terrace, Belhaven Terrace West and Kirklee Terrace, Glasgow Kirklee Terrace was built between 1845 and 1864 to designs by the architect Charles Wilson (1810-63). Belhaven Terrace was built between 1868 and 1869, and Belhaven Terrace West between 1870 and 1874 by James Thomson (1835-1905). This photograph shows the wide boulevard of Great Western Road, with Kirklee Terrace on the raised ground to the left, and Belhaven Terrace and Belhaven Terrace West on the right. There is a private garden between the road and the carriage drive. Kirklee Terrace was built close to the Botanic Gardens, in a very popular area of the town. These terraces would have provided accommodation for wealthier families, who could afford large, luxurious houses in this newly fashionable area. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
