Scope and Content Chambered cairn at Corrimony, Inverness, Highland The chambered cairn at Corrimony is a well-preserved example of a Clava-type passage grave. The cup-marked slab on top of the cairn was probably the capstone for the chamber. Both the passage and the chamber had a cobbled floor. This view of the cairn shows the ring of eleven standing stones which surround it. A 1 m high passage leads to the well-preserved central chamber where drystone walling is built on top of a ring of boulders. The chamber is now open at the top. The chamber was excavated and re-filled during the 19th century. Further work in 1953 discovered the remains of a single crouched inhumation - little more than a stain on the ground. This was below the cobbled floor. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
