Scope and Content Carsfad Dam, Kirkcudbrightshire This was one of a series of concrete arch dams on the Galloway Hydroelectric Scheme, each with its associated power station. This view shows the dam from the west, seen from the upstream side. The arched plan can clearly be seen. The power station is in the valley below to the right. The Galloway Hydroelectric Scheme was the first really large scheme of its kind in Scotland, and opened in 1936. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
