Scope and Content Ochiltree Tileworks, Ayrshire This was a works for the manufacture of ceramic tile field drains. It was rebuilt in the late 1960s, with a rectangular and a circular down-draught kiln and an L-plan range of drying sheds. The kilns were coal-fired. This view shows the works from the south. The short chimney stack served both kilns, and the circular one can be seen to its right. This was the last works in southern Scotland to make clay drainage tiles. It closed in the 1980s and has been completely demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
